01DSG (DQ200) mechatronic risk
The 7-speed dry-clutch automatic carries the group's known mechatronic weakness. Smooth, decisive shifts from cold are what you're testing for.
021.4 TSI water pump/thermostat leaks
The classic pink-residue coolant weep. Check levels and the pump area.
03Timing chain tensioner (early small TSIs)
Cold-start rattle on early engines needs addressing — listen from stone cold.
041.6 TDI DPF/EGR on town cars
Economical but needs proper runs. Usual diesel checks apply.
05Interior wear and tech niggles
Hard-wearing but check the touchscreen, parking sensors and boot struts on high-mileage ex-fleet cars.
MOT history: what to look for
Very solid. Advisories mostly tyres, brakes and front suspension bushes. Ex-taxi examples (there are many) show heavy interior wear versus claimed use — trust the wear, not the story.
